    Who we are

TravelESpain (https://travelespain.com) is an independent travel guide to Spain, published in English and Finnish. The site is run by Ville Laukkanen, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: info@travelespain.com.

    Your privacy choices

When you first visit from the EU, the UK, Switzerland or a US state with a privacy law, a consent pop-up asks what you allow. It is run by our advertising partner, Mediavine, and it covers both advertising and our analytics. Until you agree, cookie-based analytics and personalised advertising stay off in the EU, the UK and Switzerland.

    What we collect and why

    Advertising

This site shows ads through Journey by Mediavine. Mediavine and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ad performance and, where you allow it, personalise ads. The details are in the Mediavine section below.

    Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people read, roughly where they come from (country and city level), what device and browser they use, and how they found the site. We keep this data for 14 months. We also use Microsoft Clarity, which records anonymised clicks, scrolls and page interactions so we can find pages that are hard to use. Clarity masks text you type. Both tools are loaded only after you agree in the EU, the UK and Switzerland.

We also count visits with Umami, which sets no cookies and does not identify you. It records the page, the site you came from, your country and your device type, and it does not store your IP address. Because it tracks no one, it runs for every visitor.

    Affiliate links

Many links to booking sites earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. Our partners include Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Viator, Klook, Omio and DiscoverCars, reached directly or through the affiliate networks Travelpayouts and Stay22. A Stay22 script turns ordinary links to booking sites into affiliate links. When you click one, the partner may set cookies to credit the referral to us. What happens after you leave our site is covered by the partner’s own privacy policy.

    Newsletter and packing list tool

If you sign up for our newsletter or save a list in our packing list tool, we store your email address, the date you signed up and, for the packing tool, the list you created. We use your email only to send the TravelESpain newsletter or your list. Each email has an unsubscribe link, or you can email us to be removed. The data is stored with Cloudflare.

    Comments

If you comment, we store the name, email and website you enter, plus your IP address and browser details to help catch spam. An anonymised string made from your email address may be sent to Gravatar (run by Automattic) to show your profile picture. Comments are kept until you ask us to remove them.

    Hosting and fonts

The site is hosted by Hostinger, whose servers and content delivery network process your IP address and technical request data to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. Our fonts load from Google Fonts, which means your browser sends your IP address to Google.

    Legal basis

    • Consent: analytics, personalised advertising and the cookies behind them (EU, UK and Switzerland), the newsletter and the packing list tool.
    • Legitimate interest: hosting, security, spam protection, cookieless visit counting (Umami), non-personalised advertising where the law allows it, and handling affiliate referrals.

You can withdraw consent at any time with the “Change your privacy choices” link above.

    Who receives your data

We do not sell your personal data for money. Data is shared with the services named on this page: Mediavine and its advertising partners, Google, Microsoft, Umami, Stay22, Travelpayouts and the booking sites you click through to, Cloudflare, Automattic and Hostinger. Some are based in the United States. Transfers there rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

    Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. The “help” feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser’s cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.

Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

    • IP Address
    • Operating System type
    • Operating System version
    • Device Type
    • Language of the website
    • Web browser type
    • Email (in hashed form)

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit National Advertising Initiative opt out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance’s AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.

    Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit or object to how we use it, or send it to you in a portable format. Residents of US states with privacy laws can also opt out of the sale or sharing of personal data and of targeted advertising, through the consent pop-up or the link above. Email info@travelespain.com and we will reply within a month.

If you think we have handled your data wrongly, you can complain to your local data protection authority. In Spain, that is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es).

    Children

This site is not aimed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think we have, email us and we will delete it.

    Changes

We update this policy when our tools or partners change. The date below shows the latest version.
